The October session of the McKinney Youth Leadership program was all about learning how to make good choices and handle peer pressure — without losing friends in the process.

The session, “How to Say No and Keep Your Friends,” was led by Sharon Scott, LPC, LMFT, an internationally recognized author, counselor, and proud member of the Rotary Club of McKinney.

Thirty 10th-grade students from McKinney-area schools joined in, diving into role-playing exercises and lively discussions about real-life situations they might face. Sharon guided them through practical ways to stand their ground, make smart decisions, and still keep their friendships. The students were fully engaged — laughing, thinking, and enthusiastically sharing their own experiences.

The McKinney Youth Leadership program provides an opportunity for young people from diverse social, economic, racial, and geographic backgrounds who live in the McKinney area to develop and use their leadership potential in ways that positively impact themselves, their families, their schools, and their community. The program is open to 10th-grade students who want to grow as leaders and make a difference.

McKinney Youth Leadership is sponsored by the Rotary Club of McKinney, which is dedicated to developing the next generation of community-minded leaders.
